All About Preschool at P.H Miller & Plano Early Learning (P.H. Miller Extension Site located at the YMCA)

Our preschool program is funded through the grant, Preschool for All and Preschool for All Expansion, provided by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The goal of our program is to provide early, continuous, intensive, and comprehensive education, as well as family support services, to help prepare the children for later school success.

Additionally, the Plano 88 School Board has committed to provide funding for 92 students who may not meet the criteria for grant-funded spots. This allows us to offer more opportunities for enrollment in our preschool program.

Here’s some information about our program:

  • No cost to attend

  • Half-Day: Monday-Friday for 2.5 hours -- (AM: 7:20 AM-10:00 AM PM: 11:15 AM-1:55 PM)

  • Full Day: Monday-Friday 7:20 AM- 1:55 PM (Offered to eligible students the year before they go to kindergarten.)

  • FREE, door to door bus service is available for all students.  Each bus has a driver and an aide with each student is buckled in their seat. ONLY preschool students are on the bus

  • Maximum class size is 20. Each class has one teacher and one teaching assistant.

  • We have TWO sites for our classrooms-P.H. Miller & Plano Early Learning located at the Plano YMCA

At the screening appointment, your student will spend some time playing with their peers and the screening team - including a special education teacher, speech/language therapist, psychologist, or social worker - will observe your child's skills through play-based activities.

We will contact you with the results and, if needed, offer recommendations for further testing.

To sign up for a preschool screening:

  1. Fill out the initial interest form. You will receive communication regarding your scheduled day and time for your screening within 10 school days.

  2. Approximately 6-8 weeks prior to your screening, you will receive an email with next steps to finalize your screening appointment.

You will be asked to complete :

    1. PH Miller Preschool Screening Parent Information Form

    2. Ages & Stages Questionnaires

    And submit:

    1. Copy of your child's birth certificate

    2. Proof of residency

Specific details of how to complete these questionnaires and where to submit your paperwork will be provided.

All four steps need to be completed and submitted by the date given. This will allow our team members adequate time to review the information and prepare for your students' screening.  Failure to submit the paperwork by the listed due date will result in your students’ screening being rescheduled to the next available screening date.

As a note: students WILL need a current physical to start preschool. Please plan to schedule a physical with your student's doctor after their third birthday. Physicals must be dated within a calendar year to be accepted.

Additionally, we will be collecting proof of income from all working parents in the home at the screening appointment. This is a grant requirement from the State of Illinois.

Please note that a screening appointment does not ensure entrance to the program.
