Many of you have heard of the devastating earthquake that struck the island nation of Haiti on January 12 of this year. This earthquake was the worst earthquake in 200 years and has effected nearly 3 million people.
On Wednesday January 20th students will be encouraged to wear a hat to school, and in return, pay $1.00 as a donation to those who have been affected by this catastrophe. Sometimes it can be hard to give, especially when we ourselves may not have a lot, but it is important to remember that there are always people out there who have less than us, especially those who are suffering today from the earthquake in Haiti. Your dollar will help in giving food, clean water, blankets and tents to children and families devastated by the earthquake and aftershocks.
Our goal is to raise $500 here at Emily G Johns, that means almost every student must wear a hat on Wednesday. Please encourage your classmates and teachers to wear a hat and donate $1.00 to “Hats for Haiti”.
